Every week we talk with online store owners who have the same question. Make us better video ads, because the current ones are not selling. In half the cases the ads are not the problem. People click, come to the store, add an item to the cart, and leave. The problem is the offer — what the customer actually gets for their money. Good creative only exposes a bad offer faster.
What an offer is and is not
The offer is not the product. The offer is the whole package around the product: the price, what is included, how much risk the customer carries, how fast they get the parcel, what happens if the product is not right for them, and why they should buy today instead of in three weeks. Two stores can sell the same thing at the same price, and one will sell three times more because it built a better package around the product.
Three signs you have an offer problem, not a creative problem
- The ads have a good CTR and cheap clicks, but on-page conversion is under one percent. People get the message, they just do not accept the terms.
- The cart fills up but the payment does not happen. The customer wanted the product, then saw the delivery cost or the lead time.
- Every new creative lasts a week, then drops. You are changing the face of the message, not the reason to buy.
The most common mistake: a discount instead of an offer
When sales drop, the first reaction is almost always a discount. Ten percent, then fifteen, then twenty. That is not an offer — it is training the customer to wait for the next discount, and slowly cutting your margin. An offer differs from a discount in that it adds value for the customer instead of taking it from you. A gift with purchase, free delivery over a certain amount, a longer warranty, an extra item in the bundle. All of this raises perceived value while costing you far less than the same percentage in discount.
The parts of an offer that sells
- A clear main result. Not “quality products,” but what concretely changes for the customer.
- Removed risk. No-questions returns, a warranty, a chance to try it.
- Clear delivery. Price and date, both visible before the cart and not only at the last step.
- A reason to decide now. Limited quantity, a gift with purchase until Sunday, better terms on a first order.
- One single next step. Every extra choice on the page lowers conversion.
How to test an offer faster than a creative
You test a creative for weeks; you can test an offer in a few days. Take your highest-traffic product and prepare three versions of the offer: a basic one, one with the risk removed, and one with added value. Run each with the same creative, so you are measuring the offer and not the video. Watch the visit-to-purchase conversion and the average order value, not just ROAS. Only once you find a winner do you carry it into new creatives.
What happens when offer and creative play together
At Red Eye Monkey we did not lift online sales by 400% with new videos alone. First we cleaned up what the customer gets and what they risk, then we put exactly that promise into the first three seconds of every ad. Video is a great tool for conveying an offer, because in five seconds it shows what would be boring in text. But it can only convey what you have. We use the same logic with brands like GLS, NLB, Zavarovalnica Triglav and E-hrana.
Where to start this week
Open your best-selling product page and try to write, in three sentences, what the customer gets, what they risk, and why they should buy today. If you cannot, neither will the customer. That is your first task, not a new video.
